What is the HbA1c test?

The HbA1c test (also called Glycosylated Hemoglobin) checks how much glucose is attached to hemoglobin in your red blood cells. Because RBCs live around 3 months, HbA1c reflects your average blood sugar over the last 8–12 weeks.

Who should take an HbA1c test?

  • If you have symptoms like frequent urination, excessive thirst, fatigue, unexplained weight loss.
  • If you already have diabetes and need routine monitoring of sugar control.
  • If you have family history of diabetes, obesity, PCOS, high BP, or high cholesterol.
  • If your fasting/PP glucose is borderline or you’re at risk of pre-diabetes.
  • For overall metabolic screening (often paired with Lipid Profile and Kidney Function tests).
