The COVID-19 Antibodies – Total Test detects total antibodies (IgG, IgM, and/or IgA depending on the assay) produced against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. What is the COVID-19 Antibodies – Total Test?

The COVID-19 Antibodies – Total Test measures the presence of antibodies produced by the immune system after exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus or following COVID-19 vaccination. Depending on the testing method, the assay detects total antibodies, which may include IgG, IgM, and IgA. This test is useful for evaluating prior immune response but does not determine whether you currently have an active COVID-19 infection.

Who should take this test?

  • Individuals who want to know whether they have developed antibodies after COVID-19 infection.
  • People who wish to assess their antibody response following COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Individuals with a history of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection.
  • Healthcare workers or individuals with previous high-risk exposure.
  • Patients advised by their doctor to evaluate prior SARS-CoV-2 exposure.
  • Individuals participating in post-infection or post-vaccination immune response assessment.

Preparation & Test Process

Fasting
No fasting is required before sample collection.
Sample Type
A blood sample is collected from a vein in your arm for antibody testing.
Purpose
Detects total antibodies produced against SARS-CoV-2 after infection or vaccination.
Important Note
This test should not be used to diagnose active COVID-19 infection. RT-PCR or rapid antigen testing is recommended for individuals with current symptoms or suspected active infection.

Understanding Your Results

Positive antibody results indicate that antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were detected, suggesting previous infection, vaccination, or both.

Negative antibody results indicate that antibodies were not detected, which may occur if there has been no prior exposure, testing was performed too early, or antibody levels have declined over time.

A positive antibody result does not guarantee immunity against future COVID-19 infection. Results should always be interpreted together with vaccination history, prior infection status, and your healthcare provider’s advice.
